What a dev fee actually costs you
A dev fee is how mining software gets funded: for a small slice of runtime, the miner hashes to the developer's wallet instead of yours — roughly one minute in every hundred at 1%, one in twenty at 5%. There's no invoice; it comes out of your coins before you see them, on top of your pool's fee. That's why fee differences feel invisible day to day but compound into real money over a year of uptime. Effective hashrate: the only number that matters
Here's the calculation that settles every "low fee vs. fast miner" argument:
Effective hashrate = raw hashrate × (1 − dev fee)
That's the portion of your speed actually mining to your wallet. Now apply it to the best public datapoint we have for Pearl — a community side-by-side on an RTX 3080:
- SRBMiner-MULTI: ~100 TH/s raw × 0.97 = 97.0 TH/s effective
- AlphaMiner: ~94 TH/s raw × 0.99 = 93.1 TH/s effective
Counterintuitive but true: the 3% miner still nets you more PRL than the 1% miner on that card, because its raw-speed lead is bigger than the extra fee. The lesson cuts both ways — never pick a miner off the fee column alone, and never off a raw-hashrate screenshot alone. Run your own card on each candidate for a few hours, read the pool-side reported hashrate, apply the fee, and then put that effective number into the profit calculator with your electricity rate to see the difference in dollars per day rather than terahash.
The contenders, miner by miner
IpMiner — 0% fee, one pool
The headline is unbeatable: a true 0% dev fee. The catch: IpMiner is locked to LuckyPool, so you inherit that pool's fee, payout policy, and servers whether they suit you or not — and if the pool has an outage, you can't fail over; you stop earning. A legitimate pick for a small rig that wants to keep every coin, but less free than it looks if you value choosing your own pool.
AlphaMiner — 1% fee, close on speed
AlphaMiner pairs a low 1% fee with solid NVIDIA performance — about 94 TH/s on the RTX 3080 test. It narrowly loses to SRBMiner on effective hashrate there, but the gap is small enough that your card and settings could flip it. The natural pick for a low fee without IpMiner's pool lock-in.
BzMiner — 2% fee, CPU beta only
BzMiner's Pearl support is currently a CPU beta, which makes it the odd one out in a GPU comparison. Worth watching if GPU support lands later, but today it isn't how you'd point a graphics card at PRL.
SRBMiner-MULTI — 3% fee, fastest established NVIDIA option
The speed king: SRBMiner-MULTI is the fastest established NVIDIA Pearl miner, and the ~100 TH/s RTX 3080 result gives it the best effective hashrate in the test despite the highest mainstream fee here. If you want the most PRL per day on NVIDIA today, this is the benchmark the others are measured against.
Rgminer — 5% fee
At 5%, Rgminer charges the steepest cut of the group. Run the effective-hashrate math before choosing it: to beat a 3% miner it has to be meaningfully faster in raw terms, and to beat a 1% miner it needs a bigger lead still. Unless your own side-by-side shows it clearly out-hashing the others on your hardware, the fee is hard to justify.

- Effective hashrate, not fee or raw speed. Bench each candidate on your card, multiply by (1 − fee), and let the bigger number win.
- Pool lock-in. A 0% fee that removes your pool choice is a trade, not a gift. Pools differ on fees, payout minimums, and reliability — freedom to switch has real value.
- Trust and transparency. You're running closed-source software next to your wallets. Favor miners with a track record, verify the reported hashrate against what your pool says, and confirm the fee behaves as advertised.
